Basic Parts of a Beauty Editorial

I'm not much of a reader, okay, I'm just being honest and its a shame that I never read our part of the Magazine. I love looking at pictures, I'm a visual type of person LOL.

And so I needed the basic education on parts of our Section.

{Anchor Art}

(c) Mega Magazine Beauty Rule Book Page. This Anchor Art is not a header type

Its that big Photo that could act like a header, place on top of a text heavy article. Its acts as the "Catchphrase"- well in this case "Catch-photo" that will stimulate the reader of some visual sort. Magazines usually get it from PR kits and Photos that has an editorial appeal

{Well Pages}

Well these is a whole page spread, its equivalent is a Fashion Editorial.

{Product Directory}

Since May is the Month for the "MEGA Beauty Awards", we're doing the Product Directory. As Ms. Max Ignacio, Mega Beauty Assistant told us. Its the one of the hardest things to do. You sit all day checking press releases for photos and prices, and they're rarely are they, so you call the PR Person, no they tell you to call the Department Store, You call the department Store, then you call the Manager then he'll direct you to the Product Manager then he tells you Product is unavailable in their branch or they discontinued selling it. #WhatASadStory

Mega Magazine Beauty Department

Anyone who's into fashion would dream to work in a Magazine. As for me, who loves fashion and so many other things, I believe I should go for the internship where I will enjoy and be able to use my skills. Apparently fashion and beauty only came into my mind as I progressed in college. Clothing and Make-up is my only channel to divulge my artistic calling. My dream is to become a lawyer, and so I told myself, if after 4 years of studying you’ll be studying again, you have to do what you want in between, so you’d never get tired of life.

And so I pursued to be in the Fashion field for my summer on-the-job-Training.

I'm Intern no. 5, this is funny in my previous Internship I was Superintern5

And I never regretted it.

Fashion is a different world, A youngster like me would say she knows fashion, she knows how to dress and she claims her online profile of this knowledge. But the real world of fashion isn't my simple understanding of click and post. It is an art that moves people, it is the politics of the socialites and the foundation of all trends. Fashion is a mindset that naturally occurs. A true master of beauty and Fashion cannot simply take his mind of it. He does not follow he sets, and if he does he makes sure he comes first before his peers. Beauty and Fashion is a complex world, why would you spend so much on something that would go out of trend? That would soon be an empty bottle? Fashion and Beauty is the embodiment of the Marxist theory of the world of commodities. Fashion and Cosmetics gives us that special powers that enables us to feel and become what we want to be.

I believe I've learned a lot in my internship, from fashion, beauty and people relation. Does it really go like the Carrie Diaries? Is my boss really as strict as Meryl Streep in the devil wears Prada? Well no, but it may feel like that in the beginning. Anne Hathaway and I must really work on the “Know-Them-Names”, Understanding of fashion, its quirkiness and how in Fashion, one piece isn't really what it seems. Everything is a make-up, everything is styled, a drop of nail polish on the picture is well calculated, everything is adjusted to look good in photographs. Styling for everyday may seem a breeze, styling in photoshoots is a different thing.

DAY 1: MEGA BEAUTY INTERNSHIP

With my co-intern Krizelle So.
We spent our first day reading previous issues of our section so we can be oriented to what Mega Beauty is all about since our Boss Ms. Kim Reyes-Palanca is in San Francisco. Doing a beauty ed isn't a hocus-focus thing, it deals with facts and science. Its a creative job as well but writing for the Beauty section is more technical than artistic. But it is true, in the beauty Ed it rains products and I mean this, it really does.

Haggard-a smiles from your jolly interns

Posting more of our everyday adventures soon!

Writing Creative Resumes

Resumes are vital to any Job Application, unless you're Steve Jobs or the winner of the Apprentice, it’s the only way HRs will really get to know you. Resumes must speak for you, they must establish the image the HR or interviewer has in mind. Some resumes are intricate like in my case, I'm applying for a job under fashion and media and so packaging is everything, Some others are way too formal and simple, so to not divert the reader’s attention and to not make it look as if it’s trying so hard. Content is still everything.
So here's my tip on Writing Resumes for Dummies, a.k.a Unknown Active and Workaholic Kids

Step 1: Keep it Short

HRs don't have the time to read lengthy Resumes and Bio-data, that's why it’s best to conduced it in one page or two. Remember, length doesn't overwhelm, it tires the reader. This is not your professor reading your literature paper. HRs only have 5 to 10 seconds to browse your Resume, and a few milliseconds to decide whether it goes to the shredder or the "For Interview"

Step 2: Highlight your achievements and be specific

If you're the Mr. Achiever or the Ms. Active of wherever and you're more of a jack of all trades than a master mathematician, it’s really a trouble having to include all the things you've done which you believe contributed to the skills you have acquired in life. A tip is to make your Resume Job-specific, it means put everything you think will be beneficial for the kind of job you're applying for and save the "Mr. Neat" and "Member of the Environmental Advocates" on the interview, once asked on your interests that doesn't concern the field. Over decorating your Resume with stuff that doesn't make sense to the job won't help if you simply want to look like you can take a lot of responsibility.

I admit I'm the kind who literally goes around joining all possible things that would catch my attention. As I recognize the fact that they did help me my growth as person and helped hone my skills. I made a full resume that includes all my skills and achievement and different versions of it depending on the job I'm applying for, and a page concise resume for when the calling gets there

Yeah, I’m a retarded kid for creating so many resumes; I’m so specific I made a version of each per company. Every resume is defined as a company is. It’s a technique so the HR would feel as if he’s reading a page from the company’s official documents.

I enjoy formatting my resumes and so I really had so much fun doing them. Some took more effort than the others I might say like my Fashion and Media Resume for the Companies Mega Magazine, Preview Magazine and Metro Magazine. The Top three local Fashion mags in the Philippines.

My Fashion and Media Resume. The first page that acts as a magazine cover serves as a cover letter. The QR-Scan will redirect you to my blog. I printed it like a folder file keeper, the back page has a cut-out business card that you can easily get by pushing it with your hands.

On my Marketing Resumes for Marketing and Advertising Companies I choose to format them according to company color and identity. I googled for Ogilvy, McCann and BBDO’s company profile, colors and fonts used. Advertising Companies stick to their colors and fonts. This is to show how much you understand what branding is all about. If you want to enter a company, you have to feel and show you wanna be part of it.

My BBDO Guerrero Resume. The Cover letter in BBDO Identity and color, The Resume, The Folder I made with a few pictures of my works on photoshop in red bubbles. And my pop-out business card.

JWT Resume in JWT Colors

Step 3: Submit on a timely basis: Be Early or Be Late

I’m not from the most prestigious University I do admit. I do belong to the top 4 but not the top 1. In my internship no one in the job was from my University. There is some kind of discrimination that is happening in the HR room. Yeah it’s true; the top Universities get separated from the set of resumes while rest die in waiting. The technique in landing an internship for students, is to either submit it early before internship screening starts, Philippine setting September-August for Internships on October, December-February for Internships on summer. Or submit it late just when Companies open their slots for Internships. The logic between passing it early is because HRs still has ample time reviewing it without the wave of Internship applications on its way. Late is because if you pass it just before the season, you end up being in the last of the mail to be read, or in the bottom of the piles of resumes.

Step 4: Get the right Email Address

With the emergence of new technology, companies prescribe to have resumes submitted online. It’s to save effort and to save paper. If you think submitting it personally will give you more chance. Well sadly it won’t. Because it gets in the pile of Resumes which gets dumped when HRs are not around. The trick is obtaining the right email address. The company address tends to get loaded with so many emails they will have a hard time seeing your entry. Look for the email address of people and use your connections. But you have to be extra careful and be extra courteous in the way you converse especially if your contact is of authority.

On giving out Resumes: Do you make it Rain or not?

Post it online. I have a lot of Resumes but I never posted them online. A friend of mine suggested I do, which I will. Its best to establish a professional online identity with way communications are.

Goodluck to students looking for Internship!

EASTER NAILS!

I just love Easter!

Every Year my family in Sorsogon enjoy Easter Egg Hunts, But since I can't go home for the Lenten Season
I simply shouldn't miss the fun!
I remember crying for not getting any eggs on easter, I even have a photo of it!
And that's because everyone my age had a guide to hunting eggs and my loving brother (Ironic foreshadowing) would lead me to places where there are actually no eggs.
AAAWWWWWWWW!

Step 1: Apply a Pinkish Nude Base.

Step 2: For the four fingers make egg shapes in different colors, for the thumb make a rabbit shape

FOR THE RABBIT

Step 3: Make the Rabbit Shape with a Cream-colored Nail Polish. Making a small tip swiping down narrowly first for one ear, then another and then making a half circle to the tip of the nail for the head.

Step 4: Add the details. Grey for the earlobes and red for the nose

Step 5:Add the black details like eyes and whiskers. For a finer finish use a black liquid eyeliner. Preferably the cheap ones!

FOR THE EGGS:

Step 6: Its just like doing Easter eggs! Make color combination and lines

Step 7: Then add dots and zigzag lines.

 Happy Easter!
And be careful on the Egg Hunt!

"That" Winning Moment

ADQUEST 2013

Account: Pure n' Fresh feminine Wash
When we first heard who are client was we all went. WTF. From last year's Sanuk to a gender sensitive product that only favors women. I was expecting little interest from the boys. Yet 3CA5 made a smashing team with everyone really helping to make everything possible.

And guess what? We bagged 6 out of 11 Awards!!!!

Our Big Idea?

It was the our first win as a class and as Mik said,
"We made winning look sexy"

I never had the chance to thank all the people who made the entire concept possible. Thanks to Stephen Velez who told us to get drunk on brainstorming night to get our Advertising copy "That Girl". To Krizelle So who was there all-throughout this Adquest thing, for drinking with me that night and for bring out the idea of "That Girl". To Eloize Dayanghirang for letting us ruin her favorite Song to use as our jingle  To Sharie Nepomuceno for being an awesome head and a human industrial fan on the shoot. For my bestfriend Gerard Serador for bringing flowers we barely used (haha my fault) since we were using green screen on the shoot,
and to Chay Medalla for giving up the Bed for me, on sleepovers

Love you 3CA5!

And F*ck we're Awesome.

For our Adver Class we were tasked to create our own Advertising Agency. Being the Creative Director of the group my job was to create concepts, from TVCs to photoshoots and to prints. The first part of our project is to create the Company's Identity

We make new Classics

I'd like our Agency to be Free and Fun. That's why for our Agency Photoshoot and Video, I had people wear quirky clothes and costumes.

ABSC Elections 2013

Elections feels like Christmas in AB especially to those who belong in Political Parties.

DEKADA

is a Student Political Organization in the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Santo Tomas. It was founded in 1992 by young progressive individuals who sought change in the political status quo of that time. It has since established itself as the premier political party for student reformers, artists and leaders. Source: http://www.facebook.com/dekada.ust/info

Their roster of Candidates for the ABSC 2013 Elections

Since I made their paraphernalia this year. I wanted to post my Political Party's Candidate for this year's elections for future reference.

Gaining the Majority in the council is a great achievement for the party. But to live up to what we have promised and to stick to our principle of being pro-student posts new challenges. That is why I wanted to post this entry for me and for others to remember what they have promised and what we will strive to achieve this year.

Congratulations!
